Specialist Trauma Counselling
What happens in counselling?
It takes 12 - 18 months of specialist counselling to help a child recover from the pain of abuse, neglect and family violence. Your regular donation will go towards:
- Developing strong and reliable connections between the children and the adults who care for them including parents, foster carers, teachers and other carers.
- Teaching children to manage the memories of abuse and their feelings of confusion and fear.
- Helping children to learn to relax through breathing, play time and story telling, and applying these techniques at home, school and with their friends.
- Helping children to trust again, starting with their counsellor.
- Allowing children to understand what happened to them and how they have been affected by the abuse through talking, drawing or writing about their trauma.
- Creating an environment where guardians can help their children's recovery by encouraging them, celebrating their progress and understanding their pain in order to help them rebuild a stronger belief about themselves and who they can be.
