How you can help
The holiday season is particularly tough for the children we help. Many of them cannot spend it with their families because it is just not safe for them. And although this is important for their welfare, it is, as you can imagine, a very sad and painful time for them. All they want is a normal family so that they can experience the holidays that most other children get to enjoy.
We work particularly hard at this time of year to help them make sense of their experiences and situations, and to give them hope that life can be better: that they are deserving of a life free of violence and turmoil.
We have many children who will spend this the holidays in a residential care unit. This is a house where up to six other children live. And while they are well looked after, it is not the same as being with a family. These children desperately need a therapeutic foster care placement so that they can live with a family that has been trained to care and support these vulnerable children.
It takes a minimum of six sessions for a child to bond with their foster care family and counsellor and each session costs $100. Your donation will make a real difference to a child during the holiday period.
