I believe that a community that is better informed, better connected - and less fearful - about the safety and care of our children will result in reducing the incidence and depth of child abuse.

"I have a concern that fear of something bad happening to our children tends to prevent us from allowing them the freedom and adventure of childhood. This is problematic because the things we learn from our moments of independence and discovery as children – things as simple as walking home from school and building a cubby in the local park – include fundamentally important life skills, like self esteem and confidence, the value of experience, how to have fun and to trust."

Larissa Bartlett grew up in Tasmania. She has a degree Sociology, Social Policy and Administration from the University of Sydney, and her interest in the growth of the knowledge economy, saw her work for the University of Sydney in the fields of administration, marketing, intellectual property commercialisation and research development.

As an honorary ambassador for Brand Tasmania, Larissa has taken a leading role in promoting Tasmanian produce and in connecting the University of Tasmania alumni and other Tasmanians who live off- island with their home state.
